The problem was that they screw up the timeline the second that Kyle Reese went back in time and got Sarrah Conner preggers. Maybe that was part of his mission too.

The problem is that every one is used to the linear time line theory in movies. You got back in time, change the past, it affects current events in the future. Like the movie Butteryfly Effect or Time Cop.

Terminator works on that the multiple reality principle. You go back in time, change the past, every thing for you stays the same, however you open a new alternate reality for every one else. Like what happened in Star Trek 11.
