Depends. You have Earth-616 and Earth-1610
Earth 616 is your classic marvel time line that has been going along for the last 50 years or so.
Earth 1610 is your marvel time line that is based around the Marvel Ultimate Titles. This has been a reboot of the classic marvel time that they started about 10 years ago.
Some changes are rather small. Eg. Peter Parker getting bitten by a Genetically Engineered Spider appose ot a radioactive spider.
Some changes are big. Eg. The Avengers are not more of a government funded super powered spec ops unit as appose to a group of spandex wearing super heroes just teaming together to fight bad guys. The X-Men just seem to be wearing simulare unforms like they where in the movies, not funky spandex.
And Nick Fury is looks like Samuaral L Jackson, not like the The Hoff.
The Spider-man clone saga did not suck in the Earth 1610.
Another example is Iron Man and Tony Stark. In Earth 616, Tony was not so loud and proud about him being Iron Man. (Or at least that was the case, not sure what the case is in more rescent years). Earth 1610, Tony Stark IS Iron Man and the rest of the world knows it.
The movies are more based around Earth 1610.
As for people that are complaining about the final fight between Iron Man / Warmachine and Whiplash not being long enough..... try watching the Season 8 Finale of Smallville with Clark Kent vs. Doomsday. Lots and lots and lots of build up only to be over in about 5 minutes .
