You can set steam for offline mode and play HL2 without an internet connecetion.

I actually really like the idea of buying games online and DLing them to my PC. It beats having to drive to the mall and pick one up.

Since the trip to the mall for me is about 60 miles a reliable digital distribution method would be a great. But to be honest it has been nearly a year since I was last in a store to buy a video game. The $10 I spend on shipping and handling of online purchases is less than the $30+ I would spend on gas, snacks, and impulse buys.

I have been considering giving Direct 2 Drive a try, but thier selection is pretty sparse.
