I just found out I've been using direct X 8.1 since its out. I always thought I installed 9.0c. I never did. No wonder I'm getting 40 fps in CS 1.6. Roll on floor laughing. Now it's all clear why my PC has been acting like a 3-year old Dell.

Next time when you are getting low framerates in a game, go to Start>Run>type dxdiag and you might find a mind-blowing surprise there.
