Question what do you all computer technicians fear the most ?

Well i don't really fear much as i only fix and sort out PC problems for family and friends. Friends i do for free, but my grandparents pay me $30 for a job unless it takes longer than an hour then they pay me even more, how sweet is that and the fact that they're elderley means they screw something up atleast once every two weeks. I tell them not to pay me, but they don't listen. So it's a big win for me.

Although i do fear one thing and that is somehow damaging my grandparents HDD, as it's got tens of thousands of photo's on from all the holidays they've been on in the past few years, which they like to look at often - they wouldn't be happy if i ballsed that up for them.

Sounds like you ought to take that money they give you and buy them a backup drive.

Not exactly a fear but in the past I have had customers with remote sites, cable get's chopped or there is a bad joint on the line and they got loss of service you end up traveling to the clients site and find out there is **** all you can do because some muppet from BT openreach decides it's a good idea to send out a SFI, took me 3 emails including a picture of the flooded trench with a digger blade through the phone line to get a dig team and wire team out to replace the cable. I hate openreach.

When it comes to servicing a customers rig, I bet you fear a lot. -.-

When it comes to a customers rig i fear nothing. I explain to them before they pay me my procedure and if they really screwed their system up there is a 30% chance ill have to format without a backup. The other times i ask them if they have their software or if possible i could get the software for them IF i have to format and can backup their info. If i come across an infected PC i call them to let them know i will not risk my data being ruined by a possible virus so if they have over 8gb of stuff they wanna backup they need to pick and choose.

I fear that I would find something bad on their computers and be confused about what to do.

I also fear working on gateway computers, they have the worst mobos.

I also fear dealing with MS for activation issues. I did once took me 4 hours hold time on a customer's cellphone for 4 systems that needed OS reinstalls (mine ran out of batteries from dealing with dell for 2 hours about the same issues). Luckally they had a beefy battery on thier thick *** keocera phone to extend it by 3 hours. Still had 35% left! They had a complicated situation and had to explain family issues to them to get it. They finally resolved it and I felt better, but this was at a cramped apartment with 3 babies screaming the whole time. We took shifts dealing with the companies and taking care of the babies.

That's a easy one, common or garden DIY porn sends me into fits of giggles half the time, ann summers dose not a porn star make. But I have ran into some questionable stuff on computers the one and only time I gave it to the police for investigation was bad but my motto in that situation is "That is what the police are there for" and you get a option on "and charge the living **** out of them for work done."

Fixing some one computer and then getting the blame for losing data. Especially in my current job where we are really not suppose to be backing up data, but we do this anyways for some people just to shut them up.

I am actually in trouble for supposedly stealing a customers PC and turning it into authorities... Not sure how I am the one that stole the computer and put illegal content on there. -.-

I call them to me, and take a signiture of people before I do any work so i cover my own arse in that respect.

The issue is when it is family, they tend to get by the whole thing of signing papers.
