Power Out

Get a UPS and keep your pc safe.

I have always wondered why virtually no one talks of
protecting their investment with something more than
a surge protector at TF.

Most around here it seems will fork over $200/$300 for a
video card but if you tell them they should spend $190 on
a "true" or "pure" sine wave ups they think you are mad-I
dont care for the "stepped" or "approximated" units.

The unit I have come to know and love is the APC SUA750,
it's a smart unit, "true" sine wave, monitoring software, comes
in black and works great on pc's up to 500 watts.

I have found it new for $187 and have bought 4 to date.

Your pc wouldnt have missed a beat with a ups and it really
helps to have the 5 minutes to shut down your pc when
the power is going to be out for awhile.

^^^
And if people think that's alot to spend on power conditioning, don't ever look what audiophilse and some DJ's spend on conditioning power

I need a new power UPS btw, my old one was not outputting enough power.

ok i will look in to it. i was at one time but i didnt think that it would help but know that i know they are good i will get one.

because thats how long they hold a charge.

What these units do is two fold: One, they store a voltage and release it when voltage is cut out (Power outage). They usually only last for a short amount of time, s previously mentioned, so you can properly save all your information.

The second part is wave conditioning... a process where the electricity from the main power line is run through a serious of circuits, designed to create an ideal sine wave (I cant explain a sine wave... its pretty much voltage and current, represented by a line). This supposedly increases the stability of your computer personally, Ive never seen a case where a distorted power source caused computer harm or instability).

Blah.... I contribute nothing.

"Saves your computer once and it's paid for it's self. "

That is the line i use at work to sell them
My old UPS i am hooking up to my home cinema set up.

How I justify using an UPS is-who else uses them. I
have found very few cases where an UPS "wasnt" used
when the neccessity or deisre to "protect" the equiptment
was paramount.

I want to protect my investment not only from failure but
unnecessary wear and tear from erratic power that can
cause many problems to electronics. I dont want my pc
running like a 72 pinto after numerous power outages have
its way with my pc.

Better safe than sorry.
my last UPS was AU$200 (my cost price from disty)
Replacing my computer on the other hand would be at least AU$1500
As for my data on my hard drives...... PRICELESS.

Plus that my old man and myself seems to work with some rather heavy duty wood working machinery from time to time. And that occassionally blows a fuse.

If I really want to piss off every one in the house, I get the arc welder out. That blows a fuse every time.

So I think my expense on a UPS is justified.
