Potentially the longest thread in history...

Re: Today I have...

Today I slept in till 8
Checked TF quickly
Had a shower
And now I'm back on TF. I think I'll have breakfast soon.
edit: I also posted this in the What You've Just Bought thread...moved lol

How embarrassing.

4K posts and still can't even get it in the right thread :omg:

Re: Today I have...

I haven't done anything yet, but I am seriously looking these:

Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor BX80605I5750
&
GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel P55 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Newegg.com - G.SKILL PI Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI

The problem is that it would come to $507.99 since I would have to pay tax at the Egg. Well, that and I would have to use Bill Me Later or a NewEgg credit account.

For $101.61 ($406.38) less I could go with these:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX
&
GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM

Very similar performance between the i5 750 and the Phenom II X4 965. 6GB vs 4GB would be the only real difference... but I don't think that would be worth an extra $100.

Meh. I seriously doubt I will pull the trigger. We just went in the hole for those tires. Maybe after we get those paid off... :(

Re: Today I have...

^well for the 1156 route you could save money by getting a 2x2gb kit instead, then it will run in dual chan as well, that would be good. What happened about the q6600 you had?

Re: Today I have...

You're right, Luke. I was thinking Intel and automatically went with 3x2GB. With the 2x2GB set it would be $436.98. That's only a difference of only $30.60.

I still have it, but can't get it the POST. I don't know if it is the board or the CPU. A local shop will check it out for me for $25 (I don't have anything Intel to swap out and do it myself). I just haven't gotten out to them yet. :( No onboard speaker so no beep codes.

Re: Today I have...

Tell me about it, mate.

At least if I can get hold on the core components (CPU, mobo, RAM) I can go with it. :D Now I just have to convince the missus that this is a "need" and not a "want" LOL!

EDIT: Found this combo:

1. AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 95W Desktop Processor (Model: HDX945WFGMBO)
2. GIGABYTE AM3 AMD 880G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX Motherboard (Model: GA-880GMA-UD2H)
3. OCZ AMD Black Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (Model: OCZ3BE1600C8LV4GK)
4. Western Digital Caviar Green 750GB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive (Model: WD7500AADS)

$425.57 w/tax and shipping.

I could definitely use the extra storage space...

If I ever have a daughter, I'd love for her to be named Serenity ^_^ (I've thought that for a long time, not just because I read it now :p) Cos it's an awesome name and has geek connotations.

Congrats to you, your daughter, and the rest of the family :)
