old games will not install with xp

i have some old games which will not install or play using xp. There is no logic to it as some will and some will not.
fury 3 - yes
lemmings - no
red alert 2 - yes
the sims - no
it has me stumped

Have you tried using the compatibility mode? DOS games usually don't run either way, so you could try using DosBox or a similar emulator for those.

unfortunatley when i look for the games now i cannot find them (never mind they werent that good anyway)but my main problem is windows. it would be so easy for them to allow backwards compatibility for this sort of thing
