I got into them when Bleach first started floating around in 90 or 91. I really liked them for a while. Not just because of they're music, but because they paved the way for bands like AIC, Pearl Jam, STP, Mudhoney, Soundgarden (the "Outshined" SG, not the "black hole sun" crap).
I was always a fan of heavy metel, but being a musician and being in a band at the time I liked that I could use the heavyness of metal without the guitar solo's all over the place and slow it down a bit.
I guess it really meshed with what I was going through at that time. Good fit.
Also, look at how bands sounded different back then. You could hear an AIC song and you knew it was them. These days with all this Top40 NuMetal (disturbed, etc) it's all the same. Same song redone over and over. Every Nirvana album was different in it's own way. Same with AIC. They only got better with age. Maybe it was the drugs Lane Stanly was taking? lol
