Metal can be some of the most technical music out there but there are much higher forms of music. If you want to get something that really kills your fingers start trying to play some jazz or blue grass!

Learn on accoustic first. I've been playing over 22 years, taught for a while, and the reason for starting on an acoustic is for finger strength, and most importantly you can't cover your mistakes up as easily as you can via electric. When you screw up with an acoustic, you know it and so does most everyone else.

as an aside, if you want some easy stuff that sounds good to play, try playin some jack johnson stuff... as an added bonus, chicks love it, lol.
