Out of curiosity... How does one become a moderator? Who decides to make users into moderators?...?

I would think that in order to get invited, you will need to prove that you are not only knowledgeable and helpful in a certain area, but have something to offer to the forum that the current team is looking to improve upon. Of course it goes without saying that walking around with an attitude or causing trouble with other members will automatcially get you to on their "ignore" list - regardless of your technical aptitude.
