250cc 4-stroke liquid cooled. Completely street legal. 70+ mpg.

I'm thinking about picking one up in May. I'll be working 50 miles from home and the commute is rolling hills and some highway. 100 miles a day would be intense but fun I think. What do you guys think? Smart idea?

riding one of those for 50 miles woudl be a bear imo. fun in short distances though. but isnt that more of an offroading sport bike and not a casual use bike?

It's dual purpose. It has great reviews even for on-road, and I am into off-road riding and it would get it's share. The idea of having it as a summer bike around here seems like a lot of fun.

The issues are:

1. I am in college and paying tuition still.
2. I have a car that is registered and insured through my parents.
3. I'm not sure if my parents would let me ride a "motorcycle" 100 miles a day. They're a little protective. Well my mom is. My dad would just say it's a waste of money. I would save $600 in gas during the summer though.

The 100 miles a day will be fun for the first week on that bike... Then you will probably start driving the car more often then not. Don't get me wrong, dual-purposes can hold there own on the road. But commuting that far daily is going to tire you out.

My thoughts are find a job closer to home. ;)

I live 50 miles from my college, but I dorm here during the semester. I'm thinking about getting a job here on campus testing ballistic panels and temporary bridges for the army. Time to start building my resume as a civil. It's either that or a desk job for $9/hr again (albeit closer to home)...

I can see it getting tiring yeah. It's been a longtime dream of mine though to own a "thumper" haha.
