well look at the two prices quickly. for a moment the 499 seems like a way better deal then the flat 500 until you stop tothink aboutit.

making it 500 makes a WHOLE nother hundred! :0
That's the general idea. And people see the *.99 everywhere too, they've been kind of brainwashed by it in a way. They don't want to spend "$500", that's a big hurdle. But $499 sounds friendly, plus like a sale price and it's a whole hundred less.

When it comes to random numbers like .3 and such in supermarkets its doesnt have to do with the mental thing at all. Its to do with the addition of all the little cents that would have been rounded off to make another 20c extra. Tricksy Hobbits.

haven't you watched any fast food commercial when they say "Lots of great items for just under a buck!" and it's .99 cents....it's because technically it IS under a buck for them.....blame the state for adding taxes.

Although the other day I bought a hershey chocolate drink and it was actually $1.99, no tax....it was odd...totally caught me off guard.

If you buy food at the grocery store, it shouldn't have tax, but if you buy food from a restaurant, it will (depends on where you live though.) Which is to say, an item on the "dollar menu" or whatever is really more than a dollar.
