Is there a program that converts .jpg or .bmp files to text?

I need a sig to use on a text only server.

merci,

die fische

ascii art library does that I believe, its an extension for C programming language, comes with most linux distro's

I just checked, if you use GIMP it has an option to save a file as an AA or ascii art file which renders it into text, I tried a few pics, some look better than others, best way would be to tweak the AA lib settings a bit and see what you get

no he means ascii art, in other words taking an image like a bitmap or jpeg and converting it to the text equivalent----> made up of ascii characters so it can be rendered on a text browser

merci!

thanks, horndude and major, that was relly usefull.

merci,

here guys, this is what he's talking about:

http://home.columbus.rr.com/pedex

snowbike.jpg is a regular image

the other two are text renderings using ascii characters as image blocks, looks weird in your browser(I know), but if your using firefox, hit "ctrl -" to reduce the font size about 4 or 5 times and you'll see a decent black and white image, it can do color too.

before x servers and windows images were done this way instead, and for some folks they still are, text images can be displayed on frame buffer devices or terminals of any type

hey, go here:http://aa-project.sourceforge.net/

follow the links from homepage to "aview" and download that and the aa library, aview comes with a program called asciiview, it lets you convert images to text directly and edit the brightness, contrast, and gamma and stuff

Just don't use big images because it is super-slow to load and takes a while to generate.
