The insurance company should have to cover the cost of the rental, there just trying to screw you if they can. And they should be counting the rental car fee into the damage. They know it's going to take 2-3 weeks for a severely damaged car (that probably needs the frame straightened). And they know how much the car rental is going to run, but they'll actually make money off of your wreck, so to speak, if they can con you into the rental car fee. I would raise bloodly Hellllll about the rental fee and they may even go ahead and total the car out.

If they don't total the car out you really need to sell it fast. I'm sure the frame is damaged if it has $7000 in damage. And when they say it's been fixed, they mean it's as close as they can get it. And it's going to start wearing tires out almost immediately, and that's one of the things a Dealer will look at. If the tires are worn funny they'll look at the frame. And if they see that the frame has been worked on they won't pay full value on a trade-in.

Bloody insurance companies ay. $7000 does sound like the frame has been damaged, and I had basically the exact same acciedent with much less damage than that last year and they wrote the car off because the frame was bent. They basically do whatever is best for them, so watch out.

I feel for ya mate, i have a similar Astra as well.

I just had to put it in writing to get an extension on the loan car. What's really annoyied me is that I just spoke with the smash repair, and he still does not have the approval yet to go ahead with the repair. So I gess that another day written off.

A decent frame shop can pull almost anything straight, and a good one can make it look like it never happened. My dad always used an old guy here locally... dude could do some amazing work. The Escort I drive was deemed irreparable and totaled out; he fixed the frame for $50 and took all of 30 minutes.

Just spoke with my parents about my situation. They have offered to help me out.

I am interested in my former boss CSV
Honda CRV RD MY2004 4X4 4sp Automatic Unleaded Multi-point injected 4cyl 2.4 2354cc
60000km

My parents have offered to buy it for me in exchange that I buy it from them. In mean time, I wait for the insurance company to get their act together about repairing my car. As soon as I get that back, I will see about selling my Astra to pay off that loan and then buy the Honda from my parents.

Once again, I hade to call the insurance company and tell them how to do thier job
"It's really nice of you to tell me that you are going to fix my car, but could you please tell that to the people that are actualy doing the fixing"

In other news, I got my former employeer to agree to $17.5k for the Honda CRV.

You'd be suprised at how fast car repairs add up. Just looking at the pictures the car needs a new fender, driverside? suspension, hood, wheel, probably a new tranny and then all the paint and labor that goes along with that. I had a very similar accident in jan 08 when some retard in a CRX sideswiped me and put me into a concrete barrier. I had to have the right suspension, both front wheels, new hood, fender, and mirror all replaced. Car spent 6 weeks in the shop and ran me around 5k in repairs.

As far as rental cars go, here in the US most insurance companies DONT pay for the rental car unless you carry rental coverage. I pay something like 60 bucks a year extra for mine.

Looks like might go over to NRMA as they has the following
1. Rental cars are only another $50 per year
2. I have the option to pay a lower premium if don't mind paying a higher excess if I get into an accident.

I am not going to re-new my insurance with my current car. I am looking at buying my former bosses CRV. And then when my old car come back from the Smash repair, I am just going to put on the basic insurance just incase some one steals it while I am trying to sell it off.

I assume you're putting it in your mum or dads name though right? Halves the price.

NRMA aren't too bad, their service is pretty good [im with em at the moment] so if you can find a competitive price with them go for it.

Remember to tell them about any accidents you have had though - if you dont your insurance can be void and they wont tell you. My old boss found that out the hard way after an accident, poor sod.

Yes and No.

Yes. I save upfront on the insurance.
No. I will be missing out building up my no claim bonus with them.

But I will put that into consideration as i am about to double my loan re-payments by purchasing this other CRV along with my insurance going through the roof.
