Congrats on the decision, I'm sure it'll be a huge experience for you. I've heard a lot about how you shouldn't volunteer yourself much, too. I know a number of people who've been in the armed forces (all branches) and they all had the same thing to say about brown nosing: no real upside, huge downside.
