Hey guys:

I'm going home tomorrow and won't be back on campus for a few months.

That means two things:

#1 I won't have to worry about classes.
#2 I won't have access to the school's nice network.

So, since back home I can get nothing faster than dial up, I wanted to ask what kind of stuff you guys think I will need. I am asking basically stuff that I need to download (usually huge files) I guess stuff that is indispensable, I have enough music and a few "videos" (no longer will I be able to view streaming videos and such).

Any suggestions?

All MS/antivirus/antispyware updates, and that should be fine. Surfing TF should be OK on a modem, as long as its 56K, nothing under that.

MS updates are usually huge, so download them while you can.

be sure to save TF cookies, files, etc. so it will load up faster in the future. It really saves time on dial-up.

im on 24kbps dial up... but tf seems fine for me.. its just other sites that suck :D lol...

i know, I jut fell in love with my internet here.

I could download movie trailers in HD (~70MB) from apple in less than a minute.

I will miss my internet connection.

i'd miss that...it would take me about 2.5 minutes to download 70MB.

On modem, doesnt it take 1 minute to download 1MB?

When I was on dialup, it took me about 5-7 minutes to download 1MB. a 10MB file, which was the largest I would download, would take a bit over an hour.
