hidden files in my harddrive

my D:\ drive has 9G space. all the files, including hidden ones, only occupy 5.7G. But the property of the D: directory says, 7G of space has been used and only 1.5G left. Do you have any idea what's wrong with this?

limit the space taken by system restore for XP.
Then open tools>folder options>view and unchech protected OS files and then delete them.
