my usual "scared of technology" family thinks someone is going to rape me (LOLLLLL LMAO!!!!!) if i get my own IP address because my mom talked to this dyke of a police officer who said boys 10-18 shouldn't have computers in their rooms.... and this is totally stopping me from ruling the world via my own website (and IP)!!


i've tried explaining to them that its just a series of numbers..... but they are being stupid. Any ideas how to convince them?

Not only are there a limited number of IP addresses as stated, those IP addresses are always being subnetted and then subnetted again, creating more and more IP addresses to be used, some of them routable internally, and some of them routable from the internet, ie, the one you are using right now.

Tell her your IP changes regularily, and not only must the rapist be VERY intelligent in computer networking, but he must also know alot about you before he actually finds you, and rapes you. O_O

Basically, it IS possible that someone can track you down via your IP, but they gotta go through your ISP to do it anyways, and unless you are from the police or a government agency, your ISP is to withhold information unless you authorize it. So don't worry buddy, just sleep with your bumhole tight.

Remove all the porn from your computer to an external harddrive and just prove to your folks that you are not downloading any.

BTW, do not hide the external hard drive under your bed, as that is the first place they will look.

On a serious note, they to prove it to them that the computer in your bedroom is getting from practical use besides OT Forums, P2P, Porn and Online Games.

Rape happens in dark alleys not because somebody found an ip address. For example, if some perv magically finds your ip address he'd have to know quite a bit to decipher any of it's information and I don't believe you can accurately get an address or anything from it. Plus he'd have to be sure that it was a teenage boy, something also impossible to tell from an ip address. The worst he could do is maybe hack your pc and your firewall would prevent that.

I always hated ignorance such parents can be a pain.


I fail to see what your problem is you need two ISPs for what just use the one you already have and share with your parents. Use a service like no-ip and host your website on the PC they will never know. Use FCpages, Geocities, Google Page Builder, or others.


So many options there is no need for two ISPs.
