on a serious note, has Apple said any thing about a successor to the iPhone 4 yet? Reason why I ask is that I do have the opportunity to recontract and upgrade my hand set as early as the end of next month.

Only thing I've heard is the potential for the VZ iPhone, but even then I don't think VZ has anything set up for it @ CES. VZ revealed I think 10 LTE devices, but iPhone wasn't one of them.

Which seems right because they need something to boost the Q1 sales and drag into Q2 before a launch at end of Q2 start of Q3.
