Why are dvd players (the ones that your tv is connected to) so wide. It seems if they can fit it into a 5 inch drive and it works why dont they try make it as small as possible seen as everything is going micro? Anyone know a reason.

Because in your computer the drive is only reading the info and senidng all of it to the cpu, video card and ram to get all the work done. On a tabletop DVD player they need to include all those components.

They have small tabletop dvd players, but with size you limit features. That and most people want they're av compontents the same size. This makes everything stackable and neat.
