i was reading popsci this month and seen that you can put linux on your iPod. this makes me want to get an ipod cause you can play Doom, and theres a NES and gameboy emulator.

just wondering if anyone here has linux on there iPod?

here's the site: http://ipodlinux.org/Main_Page
(it looks like wiki, i got confused when i was first there.)

Hello,

I installed ipodlinux on my iPod Nano. Was good. Can change themes but I found them really plain and 2D looking.

Put some videos on. Pretty cool watching videos on a nano. Problems are that the video files have to be RAW so they consume tonnes of space (I only have a 2GB nano)...plus short battery life for backlighting and processing when playing videos.

I wiped the ipod and tried Linux Rockbox: http://www.rockbox.org/ (from Daily Build section).

Better interface I though, looks better. More features too. But no video playback as of when I tested it out.

Gone back to Apple's Firmware however...much more practical for listening to music I find.

I installed Ipod Linux on my brothers 30GB Ipod Video. It uses a boot loader so you can either boot the original Apple software for listening to music or boot to Linux for playing games and screwing around.

Why get an Ipod Video if your going to listen to music?
Because you can watch videos or listen to music. :umm:

It's got 30GB and it's only got 13GB of music on it. Plenty of room for videos.
