Is it better to give or receive a PDF?

I just saw the advert with that slogan, I couldn't help but smirk. PDFs are the most irritating document form I've ever seen - they're bloated, very slow to download - I seem to have to scroll through the pdf pages by page in order to trigger it to download, and they're a pain to read. What is the point in them? Anyone else share my hate for these things?

yeah, i hate that hand you have to use to scroll

Yeah! You can't even use the mouse wheel on it, and you have to "grab" the page with the hand and move the mouse forwards in order to scroll downwards.

and it takes about a week to get to the end of the document like that

Even worse when you -have- to zoom in order to see the text clearly - you have to then scroll from side to side in order to read to the end of the line.

I suppose PDFs give you incentive to actually buy real books instead of downloading them. Small PDFs I don't mind ,at least then I can print them out

The only reason PDF's are used for is to lock the document, and then nobody can change it or edit it.
