annoying email spam

Ok, this is really starting to PO me... I use my email for communications between freinds, family, customers, etc...and my **** email box is FULL OF SPAM!!!!. i mean wtf, they are spelled bad, everything, and come from a different email each time. but somethign I have noticed is that every single one of them has come from "insertemailhere@mail.com"...mostly what i notice is that @mail.com...I use Microsoft Outlook 2000 9.0.0.2711, is there any way that I can just block all emails from mail.com?

also on a different subject, i just migrated from outlook express, and you know when you first open express how it automatically fetches new emails from your mail server? how would I set up Microsoft Outlook to do the same?

I know outlook 2003 has the junk mail feature, but im pretty sure that outlook 2000 does not. They mispell crap so that they can get around filters. Even without the junkmail option you should still be able to block @mail.com addresses in the options of outlook.

Outlook 2003. To set it to send/recieve when opened, click tools, options, mail setup. Check the box for send immediately when opened.

You should be able to filter all incoming mail from 'mail.com' into a spam folder by setting up outlook rules. Can't remember how to do this off hand but that should sort it.

Read up about catch all email addresses as you might have this set up.

Spam is getting so out of control ATM. You think you killed them in one menthod, and they just come up with another.

Right now, sending PDF spam seems to be the flavour of the month.

And the problem is, it's only going to get worst.


What I have done is the following.
1. Have 2 email address. One is a public one, the other is a private one. Only give your private one out to people that you know. Treat it like you treat your home telephone number. Use for public one for signing up for things online, and other crap like that. And be prepaired to change your public account every 12 months or so.

2. Have some thing obscure for your email address. FIRSTNAME . LASTNAME @ DOMAIN . COM so easy to phish. However if you have some thing like a nick name or a foreign word much harded for phishing. Like my personal email address is japanese word for Death God. I might be a little hard to for people to understand or spell, but it means hardly ever get spam.

3. Never open spam emails. Some of the emails have some thing in the hyperlinks for the pictures that alerts the spammers that this is a real email address. Best thing to do is to delete all spam messages from your ISP's web mail service before downloading them via outlook.

4. Use outlook's word filter / sender filter with commonly used words in spam. I could give you a list of them, however I do fear that mods will have words with me about content.

Good advice there. I have several email accounts as well. My hotmail account gets tons of spam but my yahoo account gets zero. My home account gets some but not very much.
