Well, the slang term "man" or "dude" as in "What's up man?" or "What's happenin' dude?" isn't a properly constructed sentence either. However, the majority of the population of the country (and others) understand the meaning givin' it's context.

I email my father and typically open with:

"What's shakin' dude? I'm having a little difficulty with the setup with xxx model router and could use your help" and he understands. It's been around for a long time and it's accepted.

However, if I should ever open with:

"OMGWTFBBQZORZ!!!!!11ONEONE11! I need your 1337 skillzorz Dad on this Router i'm havin' difficulity with at this Casino cuz u pwnzorz!!!"
I assume his response would be to take the router and hit me upside the noggin with it.

Don't worry, hizzle/nizzle and the like will fade away in time. It's just more widely known and accepted because ... well, frankly, it wasn't started by a bunch of 12-15 year old children with absolutely no real life social skills.

Again....no offense. Just stating what I observe.

One thing that I find sadder that people that use 1337 on the internet....

People that speak 1337 is real life.

I had a house mate that used to say things like "BRB" (Be Right Back) or "WTF" (What The Fu©k) or "FYI" (For Your Information)

I think it's just sad.

No offense taken but its just the dizzles and nizzles have been around a while and Snoop Dogg made it worse w/ his Snoop Dizzle Televizzle and all of it in his songs so 'gangsta' wanabes do it all the time. I would never open up a letter or even anything for that matter like that. Honestly the first time i ever used 1337 was when i did it in that convo w/ my gf and dont plan on doing it again.

well FYI pre-dates the net so that is acceptible, as far as 1337 goes i loathe it to the point were just to get by i wrote my own translator, dosent hep much cause everyone has their own version and the vocab is not set, i have no problem with simple net-speak ie: brb, wtf, omg ect. but whne some one comes up and says: ! 4|\/| 4 |_|83|2 |-|4(|<20|2, ! _||_|57 |*\v/|\|3|) %0|_| |\|008

it gets on my nerves, i have caught myself using net speak jokingly with my freinds but i never use it for normal conversation.

oh yeah, some old techies in my marching band were talking with me and one was going on about how he was fluent at 1337, first WTF?
them i mentioned on the side yeah i know some 1337 (we said leet but it was the same) and he says oh yeah? what levels do you know and i said levels? what levels and them he went on about how i am a noob
