Air ionizers/purifiers?

Okay, here my situation.

I live on a major road. The only window that I have is faces out to the major road so I am constantly having heavy traffic pass by.
Last week end, I noticed that I am getting a layer of dust on every thing. However you can see a lot of fine black particals. I am assuming that this is some of the **** that comes out of car exhaust.
Will an air purifier help in this situation?

get something with a HEPA air filter. ionizers are not good for your health in the long run...trust me.

Mine has HEPA, and ionization. I find the ionization helps in keeping the air clean, 'cause it makes the dust stick to the floor instead of floating around in the air...

There are ionizers that are bad for you, but those are the sh*tty inexpensive ones that you find on TV and on the net. They think ionization is good, so they make it ionize like crazy, emitting o-zone everywhere, and pretty soon you're having nosebleeds and headaches and all that kinda' stuff.

even the expensive ionizers have proven to have a high occurence of respiratory problems. eye burning in some cases, too
