About opening .rar files?

Hi, anyone know if you can open a .rar file before a download to that file is completed? Cause I tried to open one before the download finished and it gave me an error. I don't want download a .rar files for hours only to find out you can't open that file. Thanks.

Yeah I know that and I have Winace to open the rar files. What I am wondering is if I can open a .file while downloading the file. I got an error while trying to open it but it didn't finish downloading.

You can't. It's currently being used by your download manager/program.

Hmm I closed the downloading program/manager and it still won't open. I got an error saying that it is not a Rar achive. Do I have to finish downloading the entire .rar file for the to work? Thanks
