Today, the anniversary of the worst tragedy to ever happen on American soil, causes us to pause and reflect on what it means to be a part of our nation. In the days and weeks following 9/11, the American flag was flying all over our nation. People stood tall, proud of this great country. The tears that were shed gave way to true American grit, that we would not let this go lightly.
Now, six years later, the flag is again ignored. Many act as if the United States of America should close up shop and let anyone and everyone walk all over us. So many are quick to turn their backs on those who choose to lay their lives on the line for our country.
After 9/11, people would stand and salute a man or woman in military dress. Today, most don't notice, and many of those who do snarl their lip in their direction.
Some things have changed since that September morning. The towers are gone. The Pentagon has been repaired. Lives have been reassembled. But some things should not have changed, but did anyway.
Use this time to stop and actually think about what it means to YOU to be an American. For those who are American, stop and consider the American spirit and determination even in the face of such bloodshed.
And, for all, pause and think of those who died that day, never knowing why.
