24 at least keeps you hanging on. My wife would have went nuts if she had to watch it one episode at a time. The cliff-hangers at every commercial, and at the end of every episode, were great.
She first saw 24 by accident. We were in Blockbuster looking for a decent movie. She saw the box, knew who Keifer was, read the back, and rented it. Turns out it was disk one of season one. Four and a half hours later I was back at Blockbuster to rent all the other disks for the entire season. The rest is, as they say, history.
