Question Video Card addition proving to be exhausting!

I recently tried to add the nVidia GeForce 3 (boot shows: Elsa Gladiac) and anytime I try to install any of the drivers I've found I get a Code 10 Device cannot start error. I have been told to change a setting within the BIOS to assign IRQ to video. My problem is now with the cheap BIOS in this old Compaq. It doesn't even allow me to change the time and date much less assign any IRQ! Since I can not change this within the BIOS is there any way to do so within Windows? Or does anyone know of a flash upgrade for this paarticular machine, (I will list specs at end)? I have spent quite a bit of time trying different solutions including several chats, some not so pleasant, with HP. I hate to give in now and would like to get this up and running, this old machine could use the video mem. If any other info is needed please just let me know, I am getting worn out with this but it is the only computer I have right now and would really like to get on to other, better things.

Machine: Compaq 5610
OS: Windows XP SP2
Ram: 256k
BIOS: Compaq 686I2 05/18/99
CPU: 350 megahertz Intel Pentium II, 32 kilobyte primary memory cache, 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Sound: On-Board ESS Maestro 2

im actually going to have to agree with crazy, however one possible solution should be to remove other addon devices from your computer physically and and see if that helps, you may want to look into just buying a new comp, the integrated graphics on modern boards might even be able to beat a geforce 3... howver you could always build if you can afford to.

It might be your mobo. The computer stats are extremly weak. Persoanlly my recommendation is that this computer you have is so damn outdated, dont even waste your time. You cant try to upgrade that thing yo.
