Default Speakers not working

I've tried EVERYTHING. Unplugging everything, plugging it all back in, speaker troubleshooter, different speakers. Nothing is working!

Here's what happened:

Computer had random reboots (LONG STORY, 5 hours on the phone with tech support. Alienware's tech support almost SUCKS)
Left with only option to reformat.
Ok did that, got some of my stuff back on
Speakers won't work!

I even tried plugging them into the other slots on my sound card but nothing has worked!

Any idea as to how to fix this?

If you have had to reformat & reinstall everything, then first thing I would suspect is the sound card drivers.

Check in device manager to see if drivers are all installed & whether there are any conflicts or other problems.

Might help if you told us which OS you running, what the make & model of the sound card is & whether your mobo has an integrated sound card as well as an off board one.

XP
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Yes my MoBo has an integrated sound card

I just checked the BIOS and the OnChip sound card is disabled.

Go to Creative's website and download the latest WebDrivers.

I downloaded the latest driver and install it.
It prompts me to restart, so i do.
On the log in, the sound kicks in, after that it doesn't work.
I restart again, hoping something would happen.
Nothing.

No sound any more.

make sure the speakers are plugged into the right ports, it is common not to do so with surround speakers

Actually what i thought i downloaded was the driver, it was an application for the sound card. The drivers were further down the page, and i feel like an idiot for not looking.

S'all good now, got 'em working because i downloaded the actual driver. Thanks for your help
