Im not saying theres anything wrong with that way of doing it, its a good idea. The comment about SATA was only highlighting that SATA cables are far thinner.

Well .... the hassle of having to buy the rounded cables ...

This would only take a few minutes to do and gets the same results. And its cheaper if you have several old PCs standing around that you want rounds for ....
