XP x64 Antivirus

Does anyone know a decent XP x64 antivirus which i can get for free, because i've been using avast but it seems to slow down my boot/hibernate times by a substantial amount because of the VRDB generation...

I tried AVG, but the x64 version is a pay-only thingy....

and btw i hate Norton so please don't recommend that to me!

Looking at this page, it says that Both the 64-bit edition of Windows XP and Windows Vista is supported by AVG Free Edition. Have you tried downloading it and giving it a shot?

i use Avast on XP x64 and boot times aren't affected.

well, with a 3.64ghz quad core compared to a 3.71Ghz pentium D, i dont think you would notice a difference anyway

Could be a driver conflict though...

Processor speed has very little to do with loading times. Something is obviously causing it to hang for a bit.

i agree. I went onto task manager, and it appeared that my wi-fi was being used to the max of the paltry signal that i get from my room to the corridor (about 10mbps throughput ), and when the throughput dropped back to zero, the rest of my system loaded. does anyone know how to stop this? I dont like waiting 5 mins for my pc to turn on - it makes my sister's athlon XP 2600+ (with 1gb and FX5200) look fast!

You have an x64 version, read this link, might save you a big, big headache.
