Windows Update.....Virus?

Hi all,
I am working on several computers currently. 2 of them will not allow Windows update to work. I've ran Spybot, AdAware and a thorough Avast scan. Still, nothing.

Spybot did flag a couple of programs that were meant to deny notification of the firewall and anti-virus being off. I removed them, but still no go.

Has anyone dealt with this? They used to update fine. I can't figure it out. I appreciate any help on this subject.

Corey,

You will need to check the registry keys for Windows update on each system. Several infections make a change to that key to prevent the user from updateing windows.

Check these keys....

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Look for an entry that says NoWindowsUpdate or DisableWindowsUpdate

Make sure it's "Data Value" is set to 0 (ZERO)
