What is the worst computer virus ever?

Shadow copies work, but not for 500 GB worth of data.

We had backups so we just restored from the previous nights backup.

Just saying i think that is probably the worse i've encountered. While a lot can hose an OS, you can restore reinstall an OS. If data is lost unless you have backups (or vss enabled) you are hosed.

Yeah but WHO doesn't make backups?!

Haha, i think a lot of people do have backups but may not have the retention required to restore encrypted data. If the virus hits a share people don't access much you may not know it's encrypted until your retention period is expired. Then you are screwed.

I say cryptolocker tied with stuxnet, most others could be easily patched or avoided
