Hey guys,
What in your opinion, is the ultimate setup for internet security? Protection from Virus and Spyware of course. I am a business owner that is looking for a ultimate combination to install on customers computers when asked.

Thanks for the pointers in advanced!

Derek

For total security, never install an OS, never power it on, cast it in a vat of cement, put it in a lead lined room with armed guards.

But for real world use:
Go with AVG free anti virus and anti spy. Comodo has a good free firewall. Plus the price is right.

a proxy server would be a good start, to seperate the network from the internet. an external hardware firewall to go with that will also be a good idea. dont use wireless, because it can be cracked by a 10 year old.

how big is your business? if its small, i wouldnt worry about virus protection so much, as long as you havent got any monkeys working for you.

oh wait... you said on customers computers. either way i spent too long typing that to just delete it :p

depends on how secure they want it and how much freedom they have with it. you dont want to put so much stuff on though that they have to fight all the time to do simple stuff. you also dont want to have stuff running automatically. i cant tell you how annoying it is to be playing a resource demanding game only to have the anti-virus decide its a good time to start scanning for viruses.

as for firewalls... well i dont bother with those, because i have a router with an in-built firewall in it. if they use a router, convince them to get a more secure one, then charge $300 to install it lolol.

LOL, Thanks for the posts! I am looking for the setup that will work for the general public home owner. These are people that do tons of internet surfing and email checking... So far, the vote is AVG?

Avast or AVG, definitely no porn, user Firefox. free ipods don't exist, free movies are only on torrent networks, not in programs

avg is definitely not the greatest although really good usefull if you dont or cant shell out 70 bucks everytime a customer wants good protection you dont always get what you pay for avg is proof :p good software.

for average home user I would install AVG antivirus since it will update and scan regularly for them and has decent protection, of course make sure automatic updates are on, spybot or defender for spyware/trojans, and also a squared free for spyware/trojans.

If you add more security products than that I would disable the real time protection on those items so you don't have too many real time security guards running at the same time crippling speed of the computer. The top three should find basically any virus/trojan/spyware infection you'll come across. Might want to include a rootkit scanner if you want, although those type of infections are very rare.

Symantec pro and Adaware 2007 or SE. DEFINATELY go with firefox, place a nice little script telling them no ads, no porn, no free... well, anything really. spam is bad, could generate spyware/malware/virus's, use trusted sites, don't know firewall programs really...
