So, for security reasons, I thought I'd change my router password yesterday. Now, I can't get into Windows Update, update Windows Defender, or access anything involving my network settings. I looked around online and saw that this problem can relate to a virus issue. That's why I'm posting this here. I have Windows 8 and use Windows Defender. I'm running a trial version, full scan of Malware Bytes right now.

However, could this be malware related or having something to do with the password change?

My Malware Bytes scan showed no malicious items detected.

I tried powering down my laptop and powering it back on. When I tried to update Defender, the green bar will start and then stop 1/4 of the way through before giving me a message that says it can't complete due to a connection problem.

As far as Windows Update and Network settings go, the cursor will just spin for ever.
