Virus authors have always been known for writing a worm/virus that spreads quickly but security experts are now saying that some virus authors are intentionally slowing things down. The thinking behind this is that the faster you spread, the more attention you gather and the faster you are squashed.

But now, many writers are driven by money instead. They write code to turn the computers of unsuspecting individuals into "botnets" -- networks for spreading junk e-mail or stealing financial data from others. Security experts find that some are even taking measures to make sure their programs don't spread too quickly or too broadly, lest they get detected and blocked.

IÂ’m not sure why big companies donÂ’t band together and offer rewards for people that turn in virus writers. For enough money, most people will turn in a family member, let alone the scumbag hermit next door writing the next W32.iluvj00.A virus.
