I've been running the same brand of Anti-virus and firewall for years. I also run Spyware Blaster and Spybot S+D.
Now suddenly my Antivirus refuses to scan- It crashes when I tell it to perform a whole scan, or even scan a specific target.
The Company website asks me to uninstall and reinstall the AV before contacting them, so I did, with the same results. Finally I sent an a-mail, and the company asked me to run a diagnostic and send in the results, which I did.
Their advice was to remove 3 programs from my computer, the two listed above, and one called "SpamAssassin," which I wasn't aware was even ON my system. The SpamAssassin appears to be stored ONLY in folders from my AV provider.
1) How could Spybot S&D interfere with the scanning engine of my AV?
2) Is SpamAssassin legitimate software?
3) Why is it embedded within my AV folders, if it is?
Any ideas?
