About a month ago, I downloaded some spyware. I knew it was going to be there, I just didn't think it would drastically affect my system. Now, it runs slow despite how many tests I do, and the text below the icons, which would have no background, now have a black background.

Notice the icons. How do I fix that? And at startup, it loads the bar at the bottom, but it waits for another 2 minutes to load the icons, which it never did before. How do I fix that?

One of the boxes needs to be checked but i cannot remember which one. Just make sure that all of them are checked off.

Its clicked on Adjust for best appearance, and under custom, those are all checked. Do I go to custom?

In display, all are check except "Use large icons", and under "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts", it says standard, as opposed to clear type.

click on "Use Drop Shadows for Icons" and it will be the way you want it
