Possible to get a virus from another connected HDD

Just a quick question.

If a HDD with an infected Windows 7 operating system is plugged into an external hard drive case, and then plugged into a non-infected computer to run virus scans on the infected HDD, is it possible to transfer the virus from the infected HDD to the non-infected computer (without actually transferring files of course).

Is there any chance of corrupting the Windows 7 OS on the infected drive after running virus scans?

Thanks!

Yes it's possible.

There's your answer.
Just think, it is connected to your computer so you can access the files, so if it is infected then it will do the same thing to your primary HDD as it did to your other HDD. Connecting it without even opening it can infect your files.
