This computer has been used to download "any" kind of stuff without any anti-virus or anti-spyware programs. I did format the hd from another computer and newly installed a new XP Pro Os. Everything is working good except for the pop-up. I already tried scanning using AdAware SE & AVG, but those didn't scan or fix the problem.

How do you get rid of this pop-up without the hassle of formatting the hd again and installing everything? Is this a registry error that I need a registry editor to fix? Any suggestions?

This is the pop-up message:

Messenger Service

To shut down the messenger service though this does seem to be some kind of nasty virus you simply have to go to your control panel and then administration tools. From there you open up services, then find the messenger and disable it. However there are quite a few people around here with extensive virus clean-up knowledge, so hopefully they can help you further than that, and make sure you post a hijackthis log soon.

thats easy....... go to start > run, then type services.msc right click messenger service then change the startup type to disable then click stop, then click OK and your done
