Is Norton better to use than the various free programs on the internet? Would it clean up my PC? I mean, things like ad-aware are just not cutting it and also Spybot.

Avast is better than Norton, plus its free. There are many other free programs that make Norton look like a piece of useless software.

Indeed, I don't see Norton doing much better in any respect. I used to keep a current copy of Norton with the "free after rebate" or close-to, but they're not even worth the hassle now. As far as cleaning goes, I tell everyone I know this: reformat. Then just use common sense (not running random executables/batch files/etc.), and as the "first line", any AV that has an active scan... then there's Firefox's adblocker with NoScript... I know that's not much of an answer, but it's too true to ignore. :)
