ok...on my desktop lies an icon reading something similar to "bittorrent beta 1.4"

the icon associated with the icon is of a blank screen, which might signify an incomplete download.

its an exe

when i try to delete it it says it might be used by another person/program...etc.

no...nothing under add/remove programs that might be the culprit...

so i dont know....

i forgot to mention that dozens of reboots have passed with no luck of deleting the item.

Something is using it. start, run, type mconfig, startup tab, click disable all, except your antivirus and firewall if you have one and reboot then delete.

You have a file/program you want deleted,

Use a Delete Utility like the one from the link below. It works great as it schedules it to delete on boot before Windows loads and starts to use the file/program,

Delete Doctor
Dr.Delete

If you have 'Hi-Jack This' already on your harddrive, open the tools section and there is an option for deleting stubborn files.

i tried the "get rid of startup stuff and delete" method and it failed.

You didn't say if you tried the Dr.Delete download,

it usually works, it worked for Syn|kal
