Microsoft Issues Out-of-Cycle Updates, Zero-Day Fixes

Say what you will about Microsoft but at least they try to patch security holes as quickly as possible on most of their products. PC World details some recent out-of-cycle patches and zero-day fixes that have affected MS stuff. Of course, they've had a lot of practice at doing those fixes over the years.

The out-of-cycle patch, critical for all versions of Internet Explorer on 2000, XP, and Vista, addresses IE's handling of flawed ActiveX controls created with the Microsoft Active Template Library (ATL), a developers tool included with Visual Studio. At-risk PCs could be hit by a drive-by-download attack.
