Lost Internet Connection

[CHH]

I've lost connection to the internet on one of my PC's since running Spybot S&D. It's obviously taken something with it!!!

I CAN however access the net when logged on in "safe mode with networking". I've tried the Winsock fix program too.

There are three separate accounts on the PC. In each account there is a leftover file in c:\windows\temp that can't be deleted. They are...

A/c 1 - zlt03204.tmp
A/c 2 - zlt02c1c.tmp
A/c 3 - zlt03b88.tmp

If I go to safe mode those files don't appear in Temp. I'm guessing they're something to do with my lack of internet access???


On rebooting the files are still there but they've change their names slightly.

I am afraid that you have deleted files that aren't redeemable.I recommend that you reinstall ur OS and after that you install your ISP.When you download your spyware/adware program I recommend Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition (free),its a very simple program.I believe that HijackThis is a program that is a bit too complicated to use.To download Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition just go to : http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE...045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 and download it.

Actually Spybot does a system restore if done properly before deleting files.

So before going and reformating, let's see if we can restore your computer to a previous point. Log in under Safe under admin so that you get all three accounts at one time. If you don't know how to log in under safe mode, here are the instructions, please print them out since they are not accessible once you are in safe mode. And print this out as well.

Logging in as Administrator

Added 4/11/02

If you want to log in as Administrator, but it is not show on the Welcome screen,

1. Hold the Ctrl-Alt key and press Del twice.
2. This will bring up the normal login and you can log on as Administrator

And then pick a point prior to when you did the last spybot and you should have those files back. Liz

What Spyware Killer do you prefer? I bet its Ad-Aware because its at the top of ur list.

Actually yes cause it does a more though job than Spybot but I actually prefer both in tangent. Working both together as a team gets almost everything that the average person needs to get off their computer without expert help. Liz
