FTP hacked :(

Hey guys,
I have a ftp site, and a few days ago it was hacked, the reason i know this is because the hacker left a nice little sign on my home page saying you have been hacked and installed some annoying programs. Nothing was damaged (for which I am lucky), but I still find this annoying and want to prevent it in the future.
The password I used before was alphanumeric, so it wouldn't have been easy to crack.

Is there anyway I can trace who has done this?

Or how can I help prevent this from happening in the future.

You can prevent this from happening in the future by using proven dependable products and using them right. Don't run Windows FTP servers, it's just dumb.
