confusion with portable anti virus tools

hi,

i have read some articles in the net where you can use a portable antivirus placed in a flash drive and make it work on computers that have viruses.

i don't get it

if you insert that flash drive on that pc, that flash drive would also be infected in an instant the pc reads you flash drive which will cause the application in your flash drive be infected.

how do you use these tools correctly?

It entirely depends on the virus whether it clones itself to your USB stick. And that's just a risk you need to take. But, if you're going to be getting rid of the virus anyway why does it matter? As long as you scan the USB stick too.
