AVG Secure Search - virus or not?

So AVG made me update it today and now when i open my Google Chrome that search is there instead of google, but it says it is powered by google. Now at first glance im like Cool! I can search safely now, but when i googled more about it i got alot of negative comments and alot saying its malware and a virus and that people cant get rid of it.

I've always used AVG so im unsure. Does anyone know if its safe or a virus?

Won't say it's a virus but it may harm your surfing on the internet by flagging/filtering sites that may be false positives.
