Well I'm posting this in the internet category although I'm sure I have some weird problems with my computer/operating system at the moment, I guess I'll mention them here since I'm talking about the entire thing, but if it's better in the other bit I'll make another thread there.

Anyway this problem, see this image:

Ebay doesn't display correctly, it has bits missing. This is in Internet Explorer and Firefox, and I've tried the obvious solutions, things that SHOULD work to fix it, such as lowering privacy/security and putting ebay as a safe site, allowing all images from the site in firefox, enabling active x, etc.

But it can't be a problem with one browser if it's with both?

Recently like I said my computer has been throwing up errors while generally using it (I have winXP). I tried to fix it by using some registry cleaners but they didn't seem to do anything, I then updated windows xp service pack 2 which I didnt have before, but it annoyed me and didnt help anything, so I did a system restore to an earlier point before I had it.

Sorry if this is confusing I'm just really not sure what's up with my computer.

Apart from this weird ebay thing, I get error messages when closing outlook express, sometimes when searching on yahoo and sometimes opening the control panel or something like that.

Some screenshots of these errors:

Any one who can make any sense of this, I'll love you forever.

Thanks

Do you have Norton Internet Security installed? Those errors that pointed to symwinopen refer to an issue with NIS and it's built in popup blocker.

Woo, you guys rock.

I do have Norton internet security installed, unfortunately. It's not up to date and I don't like it, I'm using AVG Free now, but I've been told it's a bad idea to uninstall it and it can mess a lot of stuff up, so I still have it running.

Disabling it fixed the ebay problem! Probably explains the other stuff too. Wish I could get rid of it though.. :(

It's true the Norton can leave a lot of itself behind after you do uninstall it. There are ways to fix that though.

The best way I have found to remove Norton, is to go to safe mode, then uninstall the program. It seems to remove more of itself there, than in regular mode. Also, check your add/remove list for the symantec updater too. It usually has to be uninstalled from there as well.

Once you do that, and reboot, you can then search your c: drive via the search option on your start menu for keywords such as "norton" or "symantec" and delete those as well. Then, get yourself a registry cleaner to scour the registry to remove what's left. After that you reboot and your pc should be Norton free.
